Printer works great with Square after you manage to get it to connect. The very first thing you want to is to set dip switch #3 to off. To do this, locate the tiny plate on the bottom that is held on by a Philips screw and remove the plate. The dip switches are there. Then, after installing the wifi link device, connect it to your computer’s Ethernet using the included cord and configure the wifi adapter. Star Micronics suggests using the client mode. I had to use the bridge mode to get it to successfully connect to my hotspot. Don’t forget to change the password from the default setting, by clicking the System Tools on the menu while you’re setting it all up.
Subsequently, I’ve had an extensive discussion with Square’s help folks, once I popped something in through their press office and was able to get a response (since everything on its site is merchant-facing and not consumer-facing except for its Pay with Square link). There may be a way to get a detailed receipt, but it is not obvious on the website – and I’ll be updating here shortly.

I am getting the pos kit with the rest stand for ipad mini 2. Is there an android device that I can use instead? How about a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0″ (Wi-Fi) ? I tried looking at the compatibility list but I’m not sure if this will work with everything I’m setting up in the kit. The Square app, rest stand, printers, etc. Thanks for any help. I’m new to square and have no idea what I’m doing yet.
From now on, you need to return to the iPad Bluetooth settings (not the Shopify POS app settings) and select the printer from the My devices list every time you switch on the printer or restart the iPad. The receipt printer will no longer automatically connect to the iPad.
Impact printers are typically the most affordable and are suited to damp environments like a kitchen but they’re a bit slower than other models. Thermal printers are fast and quiet but require toner to function, and inkjet printers are fast and give high quality prints but are generally the most expensive.

These printers aesthetically match up really well with a mobile type of set up. So if you’re using an iPad, a Surface tablet, you have a small stand and you’re using a very compact set-up with a very small cash drawer, then these are kind of designed to meet that look, and are very space-saving. The LED lights are also changed from like a traditional green to being a glowing blue, so much more modern looking receipt printers than you see traditionally. Interface-wise, these both have USB. They’re also available with Bluetooth or Ethernet, and then NFC is also in an available connection, at least coming soon to them.

I’m not sure why there are so many mixed up reviews and answers to the questions. I have two iPad without a square stand. This easily connected to my cash drawer and WiFi router. BOTH iPads are connected to the receipt printer and BOTH can print at the same time as well as open up my cash drawer. The receipt are thick enough to read and make orders off of and the font size is nice. If you take orders with your iPad but do not have a square stand and need a printer that will connect to multiply iPads this is what you are looking for!!

I am upset with all that say to be afraid of vendors using square as if all square using vendors are trying to rob the customers! As for the recipes I give all my customers a signed invoice with detailed info on what was purchased and how it was paid I also have a duplicate signed by them to keep in my files.
5) Your marketing analysis is incomplete. Indeed, Square’s primary audience is vendors. But in today’s social media world, the secondary channel, and an important one, is the consumer. It predates social media, actually – why do you think MasterCard, Visa and Discover spend so much money on advertising to the consumer? They understand that getting the consumer to use their cards gets merchants to accept those cards. Square’s situation is not identical, but similar. If it wants to get merchants to adopt its technology, then having consumers asking for it is a good marketing tactic. Case in point: I recently went to an art show where one of the artists we bought something from whipped out an old paper receipt maker. She also had a smartphone. We got to talking, and I suggested she look into Square and its alternatives. She said she would.
Using it with a Square Stand and a portable tablet, set up was easy, works perfectly. We are using it with a TP-Link Powerline Adapter AV200 model so we can put it anywhere there is power in our facility. The Square software saw it immediately and printing works great. If both stations try to print at the same time, one is buffered in the printer until the first one has finished.
Mobile phones and tablets use Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth printer, so the printer connection is typically easy to set up. Portable Bluetooth printers come with a built-in battery, which makes them fully mobile with no need for network or power cables.
POSMaid is wonderful for a small business or Craft Show use. It is affordable and very functional. Allows for all monetary transactions and keeps tally. It is perfect for Entry level use. The inventory control is more than I expected.
Sean, to be clear, when using the API, a 3rd party app could be used on the iPad in the SquareStand, with or without the EMV/NFC reader, BUT, when it’s time to process a payment, the API brings the Square Register user interface (or a subset of it) to the foreground to handle the processing of the payment?
The Star Micronics TSP143IIILAN works with Square Payments. Star Micronics is a well known manufacturer of thermal receipt printers. They make many different models. You connect to a Square iPad stand with a USB cable. This receipt printer uses 80 mm width or 3 1/8 inch width thermal paper for the receipts. There is a roll of paper that ships with the receipt printer. An auto cutter mechanism cuts the thermal receipt paper for you when you make a sale.
Pros: We wanted to offer a printed receipt option when working conventions. Using the hotels network to run Square is great, but a blue tooth printer is a must to allow our iPad to print directly. Once I had the set up done, it seemed to print well and at a good speed. No real issues getting the device to be recognized. easy to set up in Square register. Overall, it functioned the way we needed it to, though most people were happy to email their receipt, or skip it all together. The ones that wanted a receipt were thrilled to have the option.

Square is not interested in using anyone but Star. And their attitude is that they frankly don’t care. I know, I have emails from them about it. If I was to guess, I would bet they have a deal with Star that funds their (insert pizza parties, to silk pockets). But lets be realistic. I mean it has to be something viable, right? The fact that Star uses the same print protocals that Epson uses has no bearing on an Epson receipt printer not working. It goes in the same line as Android devices can’t use bluetooth devices… although that new chip reader is bluetooth. It is a lack of customer service and they need to step up to the plate, or someone is going to come along and take their business away from them.
