If you operate a mobile food cart or food truck, THIS is the receipt printer you want. In all Honesty, it took me more time to read through the manual than it did to connect to my Ipad. For the record, I am using this receipt printer with Square Register.
Bottom line: I like the idea of Square and its counterparts. Anything that makes it easier and adds utility should be considered. The possibility of having electronic access to a sufficiently detailed version of my receipts instead of having to stuff things in the wallet, etc., is utility. But Square isn’t sufficiently there yet and, as you suggest, it’s caveat emptor. That was the point of my post. Thanks for reinforcing it.
This device is EnergyStar compliant and even has a paper saving mode if those things concern you when in the market for a receipt printer. This printer is well made and offers you both serial and USB connections so you can use it with any Windows, Mac, or Ubuntu computer as well as Quickbooks – though regrettably it’s not compatible with mobile POS setups.
HP Smart App: Our most powerful printing APP ever– The HP Smart app allows you to easily set up your HP wireless printer, scan documents with your camera, and print from social media or the cloud, such as iCloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox
You essentially argue that it is the merchant’s problem, not Square’s. I disagree. Square changes the dynamic, thus I think it has the responsibility to consider consumers’ needs. I think you are disingenuous to essentially argue it is all the merchant’s responsibility. Were the merchants individually emailing me the receipts, then yes. But Square is taking on that role as processor; therefore it also takes on some of the responsibility to listen to consumers’ needs. One of the simplest things it could do that would alleviate much of this would be to provide the last four digits of the card on the emailed receipt.
P.S. I am greatful for the honest vendors who posted positive comments. My negative reaction to SquareUp is that there seems to be little or no interest in their part of ensuring the integrity of all their vendors matches your own. Until they mature as a company and clean up their business practices, legal agreements, and so on, then I would be disinclined to use them as either client or vendor. I am in agreement with the sentiment that credit card companies are often extremely hostile. But, as a consumer, using those companies, and paying off balance on time each billing cycle, I actually get paid by my credit card company. They will wipe you out of existence if not treated with respect and used wisely. But that’s a responsibility of each person to use their credit wisely.

This unit worked very well out of the box. Yes, it would have been nice to find instructions, or even a url for where to find the manual, but some kind souls have posted about that in the q&a, so no biggie. But yesterday I plugged it in to charge, after. It using it for a couple of weeks, and no joy. The unit shows no sign of life at. I have removed the battery, checked and wiped the connections, etc etc. The return window closed 26 days ago so looks like I’m screwed 🙁 I’m dismayed to have spent $295 (including taxes) for a paperweight, and not sure what to do next. 😩
VERY EASY. As soon as it was plugged in to the wall, the iPad & the cash drawer, it worked! We did not need to download anything – just plug & go. We will be using this on the go – so it was nice to not need to plug in to Ethernet. Very happy. Also, less expensive to buy piece by piece than the whole set. We bought the following cash drawer to accompany the printer: PARTYSAVING Point of Sales/Cash 12V Drawer Register Metal RJ-11 Key-Lock W/ Bill & Movable Coin Trays APL1304, Black

5) Ultimate word-of-mouth promotion is the customer? Not really–their interaction with a Square is fleeting. Vendors are doing the talking here, and they’re doing a lot of it. Square (and its competitors) do have customer-facing products, but the card swipers audience is vendors, not customers.
With fast printing – up to 300mm per second – this is a great printer to have if your sick and tired of receipt printers that take all afternoon to print a bill for two items. And with a four year warranty, you can bet that this one will stand up to whatever rigours you put it through.

I don’t have any card payment system at the moment. And trust me i am taking my business very seriously considering i have close to 40k invested in it. But a proper till system is just too expensive, for now anyway.
Have not purchased this printer, but wanted to let people know that this is not the only printer that will work with Square. I have two Star Micronics printers, one Ethernet and one Bluetooth and both work fine with the Square app for iPad. I also have Ethernet based cash drawers that connect through the printers and those works just as well. This probably has the easiest set up, but it is not the only way.
Works as advertised. No on/off switch. It instantly wakes up when I run the Square register app on our IPAD Air 2 POS with the Square stand. The printing is fast and easily readable. It is very nice when the combination of products (I.E. Square Stand, Square Register, IPAD Air 2 and this printer) works so well together.
This includes Star AllReceipts™, fast, free, and secure digital receipt solution available on Star Micronics receipt printers and Engage NOW a secure and customisable service enabling retailers to better engage with shoppers.
I am getting the pos kit with the rest stand for ipad mini 2. Is there an android device that I can use instead? How about a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0″ (Wi-Fi) ? I tried looking at the compatibility list but I’m not sure if this will work with everything I’m setting up in the kit. The Square app, rest stand, printers, etc. Thanks for any help. I’m new to square and have no idea what I’m doing yet.

Without going into taxing details about my company’s problem with Square, let me just say that they are holding funds of over $500.00 that I was paid using Square over one month ago! As it turned out, there was a miscommunication with one of my biggest customers due to my company name not being recognized by their new employee, and therefore he disputed the charge after it was already paid. Square emailed me and told me how to get the chargeback reversed. Between my customer, their bank, and myself we followed all instructions – yet they are still holding my funds!! It’s obvious that their answers to any questions or frustrations that I’ve had are copy/pasted in all of their emails to me. (they don’t accept phone calls for customer service!) Horrible to do business with!! And completely unethical, since everything they’ve asked for has been sent to them. I don’t know how they get away with it, but there doesn’t seem to be a way around it unless I want to fly up to San Francisco to their office to get this worked out! But then I’m sure their doors are locked so that they don’t have to confront any of their customers. Does anyone have any suggestions???

Pay Pal says this is compatible, but the few reps I have spoken with are not really familiar enough to guide me through. My LG Optimus phone runs T-Mobile 4g. I connected stand alone router(LAN?) to printer. I am guessing there is a conflict and I need to disconnect 4g or whatever wifi is connected to phone in order to pick-up signal from LAN router, assuming I can’t receive two simultaneous signals. That would disconnect me from Pay Pal transaction. Don’t know what I missing, but so far it’s a lot of wasted time and money. There’s no customer service that I can find with printer and the user guide is scant. I’ll take another look at Star website, but don’t expect to find a solution there. A USB connection would have likely prevented many issues/

I’ve suggested that Square engineer a consumer-facing link that skips most of that stuff and allows people to clearly sign up for an account to access their receipts. In addition, if Square had a big “convert” button in that account, then once it had me as a consumer, if I decided to start a small business, etc., it might well have me as a merchant customer (remembering that the demographic likely to use this for receipts is also the one that has the resources in both time, money and education, to do just that).
Hi @JoanneCFYF — thanks for bringing this up and sorry to hear about the frustration this is causing. It looks like another seller had the same question, and received an answer. Check out this thread by Kelly. Hope that helps for now.

I am having issues with printer USB connectivity. iPad recognizes square stand and the square stand also charged the iPad. But the USB hub will no longer charge chip reader nor will the printer’s green light turn on. I also just updated my iPad to iOS 9.3.1

Buying this combo and getting each Square POS piece individually was much cheaper than buying it from Square as part of their whole POS system. Plus, we were able to get our entire Square system in matching white. Cash box plugs into printer with a cable that looks like a phone cable, so it doesn’t require a USB port.
It’s been about three years since I excepted credit cards. The last device I used was pogo through provident bank. Which did not work out at all. The Device made an error and it was fixed but I lost $700 in the process due to processing fees but they refused to refund me. The problem is there’s too many hands involved and they have you on the phone going in circles. The evil leader being First Data they just kept eating money out of my account and I was helpless and could not stop it. So This left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. But after working for a few years I started to lose customers because I did not except credit card so I decided if square a chance. And I started taking credit cards. I have processed roughly $11,000 in three days for deposits on jobs and some payments. I was watching my account getting ready for to be deposited. After three days nothing. Did not realize that square tried to contact me because of the large amount of transactions and they put a hold on my account. I thought to myself here we go again. They requested a list of documents and proof of identity. I thought it would take weeks for them to process it. By 12 o’clock the next day they processed it and released the funds. That impressed me. And ever since it has been great. Money is quick about 12-24 hours. So give them a shot. They deserve it.
The device uses a special paper type and ink. The interesting thing is the amount of ink the printer comes with just the right amount for the number of paper loaded into the device. That can be 18, 36 or 54. The idea is to minimize wastage of paper and ink as much as possible. Canon calls this the Dye Sublimation technology. This technology ensures that the images you print will remain smudge free and fade free for decades. Undoubtedly, the Selphy CP1200 is one of the best portable photo printers in the business.
